If you're reading this, it's too late!! You totally missed the BIGGEST FASHION EVENT in Atlanta this past weekend! However, your favorite girl was in full attendance and I'll be discussing my experience below!
So, before I get started with the exclusive on the #TCFStyleExpo, I want to give you a little background & history on what this expo is all about.
The Curvy Fashionista was created by the OG, Ms. Marie Denee. According to her blog, "The Curvy Fashionista is a multifaceted conglomerate dedicated to celebrating plus size women with curves, confidence, style, and smarts. TCF is the fashion-forward and plus-sized focused home to everything from designer news to tomorrow’s trends."
So, now that you're all caught up, here’s the exclusive on The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo 2019.
Last year, after searching through the internet for plus size fashion events, I discovered The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo. When I came across the website, I noticed the Expo had ended about a week or two before and I was bummed I missed it. So, I took note of the dates and vowed to attend the following year (this year). I wanted to make sure I didn’t forget the event... But friend, I FORGOT!
But let me tell you, God is GOOD (...all the time) because although I missed the deadline to participate in the actual fashion show, I actually signed up within days of the deadline to volunteer! I’ve always been a stickler for volunteering and serving the community, so I was excited I was able to sign up. A few days later, I received an email saying I was chosen to participate! I was excited and overjoyed! Over the next few weeks, I received emails and updates from a Facebook group on how I could assist for the Expo.
As the days grew closer to the Expo, volunteers were asked to sign up for the days we wanted to help. If you know me, you KNOW I wanted to sign up for ALL of the days, but I couldn’t. I was originally set to volunteer for the Blogger Mastermind event on Friday, but I had committed to speaking at the Georgia WebMBA orientation that evening. Therefore, I signed up for Saturday and Sunday.
Any who, volunteers were asked to check in at 8 a.m on Saturday and your girl was there ON TIME, not C.P. time.
Once I arrived I was offered a light breakfast, which consisted of coffee and bagels. During this time, additional volunteers arrived and we all chatted briefly while eating our breakfast. Shortly after, the Director of Events came in and asked for three volunteers! I quickly stood up, not only was I pumped but by this time my coffee kicked in and I couldn’t be still. Ms. B (Director of Events) asked myself and two other ladies to join her with setting up the Blogger Brunch room downstairs. Ms. B had the centerpieces and floral decorations ready to go. We loaded it all on a luggage cart and headed downstairs!
The Blogger Brunch with Project Runway began at 10 a.m and this event was reserved for media, bloggers and VIP only. The panel consisted of: Ashley Nell Tipton, Liris Crosse and Kenya Freeman. The panelist shared their stories about fashion, their experiences during Project Runway and life after.
Once the panel ended, we moved the decorations and centerpieces back upstairs and began setting up the VIP Lounge. For this room, the team and I staged the sponsored products and arranged the room for comfortability .
After setting up the VIP Lounge, we started to assemble the banners. There were five banners, one for each year. We worked together and managed to finish within 10 minutes. #TeamworkMakesTheDreamwork
After assembling the banners, we were able to take a little break. We sat down and chatted with some of the other volunteers. As time passed, the Expo began and the people were flowing in. There was ample amount of media coverage, many plus size influencers, models, vendors, and more!
Before we knew it, it was 2 p.m. (or shortly after) and the Fashion to Figure Show was starting. These ladies were bold, beautiful, unapologetic, and fierce! They completely ripped the runway for this show and the energy was B A N A N A S!

The crowd was live, and enjoyed watching these divas rip the runway. Up next was the Cosplay show but friend, it was time for lunch (courtesy of the Omni Atlanta Hotel) , so we headed to the break room. They served a delicious lunch for the volunteers, production, hosts and the expo staff. The menu included: salad, four different pastas, and lite desserts! Your girl was FULL, okuurrr!
I was so full, I missed [most of] the Cosplay Show! But luckily, Mama Leopardess was there to catch some footage! (One minute clip below)
Since I missed the Cosplay, I relieved some of the ladies from the registration table so they could eat lunch and enjoy the Expo as well! The next show took place later that afternoon. The Big & Tall Fashion show, which was sponsored by MVP Collections was in full effect. Literally all the ladies where crowded around the stage.
The Big and Tall Show ended the events for the day, and the rest of the evening was all about shopping. Shortly after 5pm, I left the building and headed home to recuperate for DAY TWO!
Later that night, the Pajama Party was in full effect at 8 p.m. Since I didn't attend, head on over to the TCF Style Expo Instagram for videos and images!
Day Two was off to a great start because at 10 a.m, the lovely Mrs. Tasha Cobbs Leonard and TCF founder, Marie Denee hosted the Coffee and Conversations for the VIP ticket holders. I honestly can not explain the energy in the room, you really had to be there. Tasha Cobbs discussed how her brand Curve Athletics was birthed, along with Fritz Eyewear, which was in honor of her late Father. She continued to discuss how having God at the center of your life and business is extremely imperative.
As the day went on, there were two additional panels: Level Up! and Finding Your Own Style. To close out the Expo, there were two fashion show segments. At 1:30 pm there was a Bridal Fashion show.
Then, at 3:15 pm the Big & Tall Fashion Show closed out the Expo!
Overall, The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo was a great experience. I really enjoyed meeting other ladies from the Atlanta area. I truly appreciate having the opportunity to volunteer. Being behind the scenes and seeing how all of these ladies and gentlemen worked for months to produce this Expo is truly amazing. The ladies and gentlemen who were apart of this entire Expo deserve an endless round of applause. I hope to volunteer again next year!
